Weymouth Saint Paul’s Harriers held their annual AGM & Presentation night recently with Great Bob Sleigh athlete, Serita Shone on hand to give out the awards to the athletes. Club President Tony Faulkner introduced Serita & led a question and answer session with her, and later young athletes queued up to have their photo taking with her.
Serita presented trophies to the athletes present. For the seniors Mel Ward won the ladies Road Runners Cup and Fiona Atkinson won the trophy as first female harrier in the Weymouth 10. Tom Austin was 1st male harrier in the Weymouth 10. John Kennedy was Male Road Runner of the Year. Tony Faulkner was Male Athlete of the Year.
Brian Copp, who has for many years presented the TG Copp Memorial Cup for overall competitor of the year. He gave a short speech high lighting some of the history of the cup and his own long standing association with the Harriers. He presented the cup for to Benedict Westhenry for the 6th year running for his outstanding achievement in county, national & International competitions. Westhenry also received the under 20 Competitor of the year trophy.
In the other age groups Competitor of the year, Emma Stevenson won under 17 girl for the 2nd year in a row. Savannah Evans collected the under 15 girl with Aiden Turner the U15 boy; Zoe Allen and Nial Turner collected the award for the u13 girl and boy with Sofia Voss and Eliot Rossiter wining the under 11s.
Double winners included Jamie King who won both Best effort and the Dave Buck Cross country cup. Hannah Westhenry, won Most Improved under 15 girl & Best under 15 girl Cross country girl. James Tufnail won Best under 13 new comer and the under 13 boy Cross country cup.
Other major awards were The Sunshine Cup for dedication and enthusiasm, given in memory of young WSPH athlete Sophie Llewellyn, presented to Zoe Allen with the club scholarship going to Kimberley Stanes.
Acting Club chair, Caroline Stevenson made a plea for helpers at the club. WSPH is in particularly need for a Chairperson. If anyone would be able to any support to the club could they contact the club via here or call Jan Westhenry on 01305 816354.
