\nPortland 10 mile
\nIn 1980 t hree bored sailors stationed at the Royal Naval Air Station came up with t he idea of a 10 mile race on Portland\, the cost was 40 pence to enter!
\nToday the race has developed into a testing 10 mile route that will see you run a lap and a half around the top of the island\, from one end o f the island\, Portland Heights Hotel (385 ft)\, to the other\, Portland B ill (30 ft)
\nThe route is undulating\, on tarmac roads and pavement s and goes through built up areas as well as following long stretches of c oastal roads.

\nThe event is a chip timed undulati ng 10k open road race. Entrants must be 15 years or over. Memento for all finishers.
\nAs part of the event we also hold a children’s 1.5K Fun Run\, which will take place before the main event at 9.30am. The Fun Run starts and finishes in the stadium\, there are prizes for the first boy an d girl under 10 and under 15 and all finishers receive a race medal. Onlin e entry only this year. \nRound the Rock started life in 2008 as the RMPAC Silver Jubilee
10k\, after which it was decided to hold the race on an annual basis\, wi
th the new name of Round the Rock voted for by club members.
The R
oute
\nThe route is undulating\, predominately on tarmac roads and pa
vements\, and takes you around the top of the Isle of Portland in a figure
of eight\, with a short loop of two and a half kilometers and a longer lo
op of seven and a half kilometers.
The race start and finish is at the Blues Club Grove Road\, Portland. This is the home ground of Portland United Football Club and parking\, as well as toilet and changing facilit ies\, are available. To get there by road head for Weymouth then follow th e signs for Portland on the A354. Follow the main road to the top of Portl and to the Heights Hotel roundabout. Go straight across the roundabout to Easton. After approximately 300 yards you will pass the Chesil Beach Motor s Garage and the Recycling Centre on your left\, the next turning on the l eft is Grove Road. The PUFC ground is approximately 300 yards on your left . If using a Satnav enter the postcode DT5 1DP. Parking (weather depending ) will be in the field over the road.

\nIf the event has not sold out\, on the
day entry will be available and there will be an additional £2

for any on the day entries. However\, as this year’s race is a DRRL Leagu
e event we are
\nexpecting it to sell out.
Number Collection< br />\nAll numbers are to be collected on the day.
\nRMPAC Members\nRMPAC members are welcome to run\, however in order to do so you wil
l need to provide a
\nwilling volunteer to marshal in your place. Dur
ing registration you will need to provide their name
\nand email addr
ess\, so be sure to have those to hand (and make sure you’ve got their
\npermission first).
Waiting List
\nOnce the race is full\,
a waiting list will be maintained. Should places become available\, we wi
ll
\ncontact people on the waiting list in the order that they signed
up to see if they still want a place
\nbefore moving on to the next.

the Facebook Race page. It won’t be used other than for the purposes desc

Event photos will be published on the web site and social media.
\nIf you don’t feel that this is a legitimate use of your data then please don’t enter the race.
\nNo headphones of a
ny type are allowed\, this includes bone conduction ones\, unless you have
a
\ngenuine hearing impairment.
To avoid timing issues and s afety issues sorry there will be no walkers or early starters.
\nDur
ing entry\, if you state that you are an affiliated UKA runner\, you will
be required to provide
\nyour UKA URN. These will be checked ahead of
the race and anyone who is found not to be
\neligible for the affili
ated discount will be required to pay the additional £2 on race day in ord
er to
\nbe able to run.
Entrants will be able to swap their e
ntry to another runner until 23:59 on the 30th June 2024. To
\ndo so
they must email info@timingmonkey.co.uk and as long as the email has been
sent by the
\ndeadline\, the transfer will be processed. Affiliated r
unners may swap their entry with a non-
\naffiliated runner\, however
there will be an additional £2 charge to process the transfer.
