Dorset County T & F Championships Results, May 2011 - Archived Content

The club has made a successful start to the track season and 6 young athletes took part in the Dorset County Championships in Bournemouth recently and came away with a Number 1 UK ranking, 2 Gold medals, 5 silver medals, a bronze and several top 10 places between them.

Top under 13 girl performer was Savannah Evans who took Gold in the Javelin (19.53m) and the Shot (6.99m) and silver in the Discuss (15.19m) as well as 9th in the Long jump (3.16m) & 6th in the 100m heat in her first county championships.

Hannah Westhnery also in her first county championships did well taking silver in the Under 13 girl’s High Jump (1.20m) along with 4th places in the 75m hurdles (15.06) & 1500m (7.02.3), 5th in the 800m (3.18.7min) and 8th in the Long Jump (3.33m).

For the under 15 Girls, Saxon Roy came 4th in the High Jump (1.35m)
In the under 13boys Luke Strong silver in the Hign Jump (1.20m) and 5th in his 200m heat (34.5mins).
Top Under 17 athlete Benedict Westhenry ran up an age group to take part in the Junior men’s 2000m steeple chase in order to gain some practice ahead of the World, European & Commonwealth Youth (Under18) Games trials the following weekend in Milton Keynes. He came away with not only a junior men’s silver medal but a UK no 1 ranking for the distance in the under 17 men’s and top 10 UK all time record of 6.05.00. The race was one Junior international Jack Partidge with the top 3 finishers all coming inside the old championship record time.
Westhenry bettered his time to 6.02.01mins in Miton Keynes, a world standard time & 6th fastest U17 of all time, but just outside the Uk under18 qualifying time.

Under 20 Tom Austin came 4th in the 2000ms/c at the Dorset Counties with a new pb of 6.50.1mins.
For the seniors Kevin Archer came 1 st in the senior men’s 1500m (4.45.6 mins). Kevin folledthis performance up with 2 st place in the 800m in the south west veterans championships in Exeter (2.18.63) & a 3rd in the 1500m (4.48.88). he then went on to take 1st place in the 1500m (4.38.84min) at the BMAF championships in Birmingham.
