Eight young athletes from Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers aged between 9 and 11 competed as part of the Dorset Squad in the South West Regional Sports Hall competition in Torbay, Devon. The youngsters, Hannah Westhenry, Savannah Evans, Lauryn Montrose, Holleigh Breslin, Zoe Allan, Jake Pitney, Ben Vallard & Luke Strong, took part in a in variety of indoor track and field events.
For the girls, Savannah Evans achieved 4th place in the Chest Push with a throw of 6.25m, Hannah Westhenry came joint 5th with a throw of 5.75m and Lauryn Montrose 10th with a throw of 5.00m. In the vertical jump Westhenry came 9th with a jump of 37cm. Montrose came 10th in the standing triple jump with a leap of 5.07m. Evans produced the joint 16th fastest time in the Hi stepper with a time of 16.08. Holleigh Breslin also had the joint 16th fastest time in the Hi stepper with 16.08 and came 11th in standing long jump with leap of 1.58m. Zoe Allan, the youngest Weymouth athlete at 9 years old, came 12th in Balance test with score of 41 and 10th in the javelin with a throw of 6m.
For the boys Jake Pitney, also only aged 9, clocked up the 2nd fastest time in the high stepper with a time of 14.07 & came 7th in the standing long jump with leap of 1.62m. Luke Strong had the 7th fastest time in the Hi Stepper with a time of 16.00 & came 7th in the standing triple jump with a leap of 5.27m. Ben Vallard came 13th in the Balance test with a score of 18 and 14th in the standing Long jump with a leap of 1.50m.
All the young athletes also took part in various relay events on the track. The Dorset squad was split into two teams with the Dorset Dynamos boys team, which included Jake Pitney, came 2nd with the Dorset Dodgers which included Vallard and Strong coming 5th. For the girls Evans’ team the Dorset Dynamos came 3rd and the Dorset Dodgers which included Westhenry, Monstrose, Allan and Breslin came 5th.
