WSPH held their annual general meeting and presentation of awards nights recently.  The evening was  attended by Junior and senior athletes many of whom received awards for their contribution, effort and achievement in the club over the past year. Retiring club President Norman White opened with a brief over view on the challenges to athletics in the area and achievements of the club over the past year. These include the lack of progress on a new track, the need for more coaches and helpers in the club the impact of being part of Team Dorset as well as the huge increase in participation in competition by the juniors in the club and the significant achievements by many club members.

The club Has a total of 5 athletes ranked in the top 10 for their age groups: Jake Guildford who was 9th in Under 15 boys Shot Putt; Benedict Westhenry who was  3rd in Under 17 men 5000m (road) & 4th in 1500m s/c; Kevin Archer -who was 2nd in 800m (indoor), 3rd 800m  4th 1500m  6th 1500m (Indoor) & 8th 3000m for Veteran 55+ men; Anthony Faulkner who was 9th in Hammer for Veteran 60+ & Pete Clark -who was 1st in Veteran 65+Tetradecathlon  (14 events over 2 days)

Three athletes broke WSPH club records: Ruby Ellis in the under 11 girl’s vortex throw (24.91m); Jake Guildford in the under 15 boy’s Shot (14.11m), Discuss(32.15m) and Javelin(38.50m)  & Benedict Westhenry in the under 17 men’s 3000m(8.52 mins), 1500m(4.04 mins), 1500m steeple chase(4.23 mins) and 800m (2.00) who all received certificates of outstanding achievement along with Kevin Archer for winning the National veterans 800m title

New President Tony Faulkner and chairman Caroline Stevenson, introduced the award winners who received their trophies & medals from Mayor Paul Kimber

Benedict Westhenry was awarded both the TG Copp Cup (presented by Brian Copp) for the 4th year in a row and was also named Under 17 male competitor of the year.   Jake Guildford  was named under 15 male competitor of the year. Tom Austin won the Dave Buck cup for Cross Country and also named the junior support male of the year. Jamie Wood was named the junior support female of the year. Saxon Roy was awarded under 15 female competitor or the Year. Under 13 girl competitor of the year was Elinor Mason who also won the under 13 Cross country cup and all round under 13 competitor with under 13 boy competitor or the year going to Liam Catterall. Under 11girl competitor or the year went to Zoe Allan and under 11 boy competitor or the year was Jamie King who also won the under 11 Cross country cup.  All round Under 11 girl competitor went to Emily Fraher who also won the under 11 girl’s Cross country cup.

Best Senior man was Tony Faulkner.  Karen Mason & Sue Breslin were  awarded the Babb Rose Bowl for the all the help they give the club particularly collecting the money each week . The female Road Running cup went to Sandra Hood and Pete Clarke received the male Road Runner cup.  The loyalty test Cup went to Norman White  and Sarah Fraher  was awarded the Outstanding Dedication & Effort Plaque for the huge effort she has put in organising and managing the juniors at many competitions over the year .The Club Scholarship went to Dalton, Francesca & Jamsine Jones and Jodie Clarke won the Sunshine Cup.

All children who competed in the last year received medals.

The club still need volunteers to help in all aspects of the club including coaching.  If anyone is interested in becoming a coach or has any free time they can offer to the club please contact club at its website info@wsphandac.co.uk .
